Painstakingly handcrafted by the most talented artists using more than 30 different semi-precious gemstones from all over the world, this unique pearl gemstone globe is a remarkable feat of craftsmanship. A large amount of crushed pearls that have been pulverized and mixed with epoxy have been poured to create the ocean part of the globe, a very complicated and expensive procedure that requires precise control of temperature throughout the processing cycle.
Mounted on a beautiful, ornate 4-leg heavy gold-coated zinc metal stand, this exquisite piece of art features each country inlaid from a different stone, with the stones individually cut and ground to exacting interlocking shapes, polished and set with care and attention to their adjacencies. The elements of the globe are made from a variety of beautifully hued and richly veined stones, including lapis lazuli, mother of pearl, amethyst, African jade, tiger's eye, jasper, turquoise, purple quartz, onyx, unakite, abalone, and green marble, among others. Thin ribbons of polished brass, embedded through the globe, represent the latitude and longitude lines.
Crafting each of these globes involves ten individual steps and takes more than 2000 hours of labor to complete. The globe's 13-inch (330mm) diameter is surfaced with acrylic resin protection, ensuring a durable and long-lasting finish. Expensive fine white and colorful Australian mother-of-pearl shells have been used in the construction of this exceptional piece.
While the creators strive for perfection, the handmade nature of these gemstone globes means that minor errors in spelling, uneven polishing, surface fine lines, or small losses of stone dust inside the globe may be expected. These are not considered defects, but rather the natural byproducts of the intricate and labor-intensive process of their creation. These gemstone globes are primarily intended for collection and decoration, and are not designed for serious map users.
